Covenant is a contract or binding agreement between two or more parties. Promises are made and guaranteed to be sure through covenant. In Bible days covenants were made based upon the shed blood of a sacrificial animal. The salvation of believers is sure, based upon the sacrifice of Jesus at the cross. "Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant" (Hebrews 7:22). In the eternal covenant of God, Christ is the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world (Revelation 13:8).
Jesus is our surety through the everlasting covenant (Hebrews 13:20-21). The word salvation means deliverance. The blood of Jesus was shed to deliver every believer from the curse of the law (Galatians 3:13). The sin debt of every believer was paid in the blood of Jesus at the cross (1 John 1:7).
Jesus is our surety of a better covenant. It's received by grace through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Faith is an abiding gift of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 13:13). Faith is received by hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17). The everlasting covenant gives believers eternal life in Christ (Romans 6:23).
Salvation is sure by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Grace is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8-9). God's covenant is sure through the finished work of Christ at the cross (2 Corinthians 5:21). Our salvation is sure through faith in the resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 10:9).
