The Bible teaches future judgments. There is the judgment seat of Christ, where God gives rewards to His people for faithful service (2 Cor. 5:9-10). There is the judgment of the living nations at the second coming of Christ (Matt. 25:31-46). There is the great white throne judgment of the lost (Rev. 20:11-15). However, there is also judgment in our world today. It's when God gives people over to hard hearts and all manner of evil (Romans 1:28-32).
"And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind to do those things which are not fitting" (Romans 1:28). That's the judgment of God on people and nations today. That judgment is now. The same warning is found three times in the first chapter of Romans (1:24, 26, 28).
Those with a debased mind do not want any knowledge of God. They reject the witness of God in creation and conscience. Therefore, they reject the goodness of God leading them to repentance (Romans 2:4).
When a nation rejects the knowledge of God, it collapses from within. When the apostle Paul wrote this Scripture, the Roman Empire had military power over all nations. Yet, it collapsed from perversion and all manner of evil. Such a nation becomes "full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil mindedness" (Romans 1:29). That's because they are "haters of God" (Romans 1:30).
