God gave you a conscience. It tells you when you have done wrong. God made you that way not to make you feel guilty all the time. Conscience calls you to confession. That's how God forgives you and gives you a clean conscience. Confession of sin is simply agreeing with God that you have done wrong. God wants you to have a clean conscience. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).
Christ died for all of your sin. When you confess sin to God, your sins are forgiven. The Bible teaches that God cleanses you upon confession of your sin. You are made clean before God through Jesus Christ. "The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin" (1 John 1:7). That's how God cleanses you.
Why do some people refuse to confess their sin to God and receive cleansing through Christ? There are at least two reasons. First, they don't know the good news in Christ. Secondly, they don't really believe the good news. The believer's confession of sin brings immediate cleansing through Christ. You can have a clean conscience today.
